About Us                   dave-debbie-resized1

Knoxville’s Smoky Mountain Quilt Studio was established in 2006 by Dave and Debbie Farnsworth. Debbie first dreamed of a ‘different’ kind of quilt studio twelve years ago. A quilter for over twenty years, she saw the need for a studio where quilts were made, quilts were sold,  fun classes are taught and women of all backgrounds could gather in groups and quilt in a ‘homey’ environment. She envisioned a place where customers are no longer customers, but friends.

With the help of her husband Dave, Debbie  began the business with the purchase of a Gammill Statler Stitcher Long-Arm Machine and built a home-studio in her basement. With low prices, high quality work and quick completion times, the business grew. In December of 2008, they moved the home-studio to their retail business store, Goodwood Furniture.  In September, 2009, Debbie became Knoxville’s only authorized Gammill and Statler Stitcher sales representative, selling Gammill Long-arm machines and will soon be East Tennessee’s only certified Creative Studio teacher.

store-6-resizedGoodwood Furniture was established almost twenty years ago in October, 1990. It is a business of all-wood furniture, both finished and unfinished. By using a portion of the square footage at Goodwood, Debbie has created a homey environment for quilters and quilt lovers alike. The walls are hung with quilts of all sizes for both display and for sale. The smell of coffee and muffins invites you to walk in the door and take in the sights and smells of a beautiful, yet homey combination of quilts and furniture.

store-1-resizedWhile our furniture is part of the retail store, the quilt shop is not.  We are not a  quilt ‘fabric’ store.  Instead, Debbie’s vision is to be able to offer a variety of high quality and fun classes as well as affordable machine-quilting for your quilt tops.

Being a family business, Debbie’s vision is rounded out by including her four children in the workings of her quilt store. All have grown up in the furniture store and having always been around quilts and learning to quilt at young ages, they now assist mom with her quilting business. Also involved are the grandkids so when you stop by, don’t be surprised to see the kids and grandkids at the store having lunch with grandma and grandpa! In fact, bring a lunch and join them!

Having been in business for over 30 years, Debbie knows what it takes to achieve happy, lifelong customers and invites your helpful suggestions and thoughts. Creating a “Softer side of Goodwood Furniture” with a ‘different’ kind of quilt store where women can come and spend their time with their love of quilting while growing positive and sincere relationships is what sets the  Quilt Studio apart from all others.
